Acceptance is the verification and validation of digital product data. It involves an assessment of the digital product data delivered to the government to ensure completeness and compliance with contractually mandated digital data standards.

K2 Firm performs this service using a collection of rules-driven intelligent software tools rather than manual review alone.

The standing requirement

The currency, sufficiency, and accuracy of digital product data has to be maintained for as long as the weapon system remains in service — which is what makes sustainment a continuous discipline rather than a project.

Normalization is the application of referential integrity as well as taxonomy to digital product data, when and where applicable.

Performing this task requires subject matter expertise in how digital data is created, organized, and used across multiple functions — which is why it sits with domain specialists rather than general data engineers.

K2 Firm is often tasked with migrating large volumes of digital product data from one Product Lifecycle Management platform to another. Data is extracted from the old PLM platform, necessary transformations are applied, and it is then loaded into the new platform.

The firm has successfully undertaken multiple data migration tasks over the last ten years, including leading the effort to migrate a set of USAF legacy PLM applications and associated product sustainment data into the Siemens Teamcenter Unified Architecture PLM platform.

Mr. Gourisankar has 25 years of experience serving the federal, aerospace, and defense sector in positions of increasing responsibility. He graduated with a master's degree in mechanical engineering, specializing in CAE, PLM, and CM.

He spent the first half of his career on the research faculty at Georgia Tech, building a professional services organization that served the DOD, FAA, and major defense contractors including Lockheed, Northrop, and Intergraph.

In the second half of his career he held senior leadership positions at several large corporations as Director, CTO, and Vice President — including VP of Federal, Aerospace & Defense at IHS Global and CTO of NAPAOnline.com, a division of Genuine Parts Company.

He has hands-on experience leading both a professional services organization and a product development organization, and has led the development, deployment, and continued operation of several mission-critical software applications used by thousands of end users. He has managed large teams of functional consultants across multiple locations to meet contract deliverables, and has over two decades of experience bidding, winning, and delivering on T&M, FFP, CPFF, and other variants of professional services contracts with the federal government.

Derek Peters oversees the work of a team of 12 software engineers engaged in the creation and enhancement of multiple PLM enterprise applications for the USAF.

He provides thought leadership for the software development group, establishing processes and standards for the development function as well as architectural and design guidelines. In his current role he leads the effort to migrate a set of USAF legacy PLM applications and associated product sustainment data into the Siemens Teamcenter Unified Architecture PLM platform.

Mr. Peters has spent 8 years within the federal aerospace and defense sector. He holds a B.S. in Computer Science from Valdosta State University and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certificate from Villanova University.

He has managed his own software consulting practice specializing in real-time data transmission between SCADA systems integrated into Outage Management Systems. Earlier in his career he received two corporate awards from IHS Global for developing a semi-automated data capture process for PCMS that resulted in a multi-year contract award.

As a digital product data engineer, Mr. Rogers provides engineering consulting services for the digital transformation of organizations across the public and private aerospace and defense sector.

He brings more than 40 years of federal civil service experience as an engineer, including over 20 years as an engineering and information technology manager, with a demonstrated history of working in the aerospace and defense public sector for the U.S. Department of the Air Force. He is skilled in digital transformation, Product Lifecycle Management, Computer Aided Design, Maintenance Repair & Overhaul, and government operations management.

He holds a Master of Public Administration focused in public policy analysis from Georgia College and State University and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University. He holds CM2-Comprehensive Certification from the Institute for Process Excellence and has been a CM2 practitioner for over 17 years.

Mr. Rogers has over 25 years of experience leading and managing engineering and IT projects that fielded successful implementations of PLM, CAD, and MRO with more than 8,000 active worldwide users today, including A-TEAM, JAM, PCMS, CTOR, ETOL, FEM, MxPO, CCR, IDIM, TOAP, and the PDM Gateway.

He was the lead functional subject matter expert supporting the AF-PLM Capability Support Office, achieved DAF leadership consensus to fund and support JAM, PCMS, and TOAP as enterprise capabilities, and has been sought out for his expertise by Air Staff, DoD Staff, senior leaders, and program offices. He was a major contributor to the revision of MIL-STD-31000B and authored the Air Force Model Based Definition requirements for Technical Data Packages.

Shelley Otero joined K2 Firm in 2019 as a digital product data analyst for the Teamcenter development team at Robins Air Force Base.

She has well over 20 years of experience in software development, systems implementation, and customization across aerospace, energy, telecommunications, pharmaceutical, and commercial retail.

She graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology with a bachelor's in aerospace engineering, a certificate in materials engineering, and a Master of Science focused in engineering computer graphics. She also earned a Juris Doctor, is a PMI certified Project Manager, and is a Certified Scrum Master, and has continued to extend her PLM background through coursework in data migration, software architecture, and customization.

Ms. Otero's PLM experience began with her graduate studies and continued through five years with UGS PLM as a pre-sales engineer, developer, and project manager for custom integrations with third-party CAE and CAD systems. She worked with the JT Visualization Toolkit team, a precursor component of what is now the Siemens Teamcenter Unified Architecture PLM platform.

Darrell Lenkner brings 25+ years of experience across aerospace, manufacturing, oil, power, and defense.

He graduated from the University of Texas with a bachelor's degree in computer science while employed by Texas Instruments Defense Group as a senior programmer. After Texas Instruments he took positions of increasing seniority with General Electric Defense and Boeing Aerospace, then joined the Intergraph CAD/PLM group.

At Intergraph he worked on the initial deployments of Metaphase and SDRC PLM systems and added functionality with customer input to the developers. Reassigned to the Power, Process and Marine Division, he led Teamcenter projects at Procter & Gamble including virtual reality simulations, real-time data acquisition and analysis, and migration of CAD/CAM data into Teamcenter. He later led requirements definition and design analysis for PLM systems implementation at oil and power companies across the United States and Canada.

He joined the firm in 2016 as an application engineer for the Teamcenter development team, bringing expertise in data migration, CAD integration, and process improvement.
